Continuity 101

Well yes, of course. At the very least, the Camera Operator’s going to be pretty on top of it, along with the DoP, probably the Director, and quite possibly the 1st AD too.^[1] But, while they are aware of it and looking out for it, they have other more important things to be thinking about. The Camera Operator’s pretty concerned about, you know, operating the camera, getting those camera moves just so, and getting the frame perfect at all points in between. The DoP’s even more concerned about composition and getting the frame perfect and those camera moves just so.^[2] And they’re both fairly unlikely to be constantly drawing little sketch set diagrams with dotted lines all over them.

Not that anyone other than me ever sees those diagrams most of the time – but the fact that they know there is someone there close at hand (viz., me) making them, who they can just ask for reference when needed, means they can stop worrying about it and concentrate on that frame thing.^[3]

And… I haven’t worked on a shoot yet where it hasn’t come up.
